Mandaue City and the Consolacion Sarok Weavers posted lopsided wins to force a championship date in the North Division of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Consolacion Municipal Gym last Friday night.
Froilan Mangubat erupted for a tournament-high 44 points to power Mandaue City to a 106-82 trampling of the Bantayan Seamasters, while Consolacion was never really threatened in dispatching Balamban, 104-83.
Mandaue and Consolacion both improved to 4-0 (win-loss) in the quarterfinal round and will face each other on Wednesday in Tuburan to determine who gets the homecourt advantage in their title showdown.
Mandaue is yet to lose a single game in the tournament with a perfect 9-0 card, while Consolacion is having its own stellar run with its 8-1 record.
Jancork Cabahug failed to suit up for Mandaue but Mangubat was there to provide Mandaue the needed firepower as he scored 13 of the team’s 25 first quarter points that set the tone for the 34-point rout.
Aljie Mendez and Jeric Gonzaga backed Mangubat with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
JC Escalona, on the other hand, led the way for Consolacion with 17 points.
Eddie Formento paced Balamban with 20 markers.
