Cabaron ready to share SEA Games experience

FRESH from his stint with the national team in the 29th Southeast Asian Games, Cebuano spiker Alden Dave Cabaron looks to share his experience in the international stage with his teammates as he hopes to lead the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma back to the Cesafi volleyball crown that the Cobras lost last year to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).

In an exclusive chat with Cebu Daily News, the 20-year-old Cabaron, who led the Cobras to the 2014 and 2015 Cesafi titles, said that despite only winning a game in the SEA Games, his stint was truly memorable as it elevated his game to a new level.

“Natutunan ko pong maging isang matured na manlalaro, how to be humble and lalo na sa lahat, paano mag-respect sa isa’t isa,” said the 2015 Cesafi Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Cabaron, who was named the new captain of SWU after the departure of erstwhile skipper Royet Varga, said that he looks forward to sharing his experience in the national team to the rest of the Spiking Cobras.

Varga already exhausted his playing years last season.

“I’ll be playing my last season in the Cesafi. Gagawin ko po ang lahat ng makakaya ko at ang mga natutunan ko dito sa national team ay i-aapply ko po sa Cesafi,” Cabaron said.

Aside from Cabaron, his fellow national team and SWU teammate John Carascal also decided to return to play his final year with the Cobras after finishing his degree in Marketing Management last April.
