A barangay councilwoman in Carmen, Bohol died in an ambush incident on Sunday afternoon.

Rufa Sugala, a councilor of Barangay Progreso in Carmen town, suffered several gunshot wounds after four bonnet-wearing men fired shots at her and her husband in Purok 4 Barangay Progreso past 1 PM.

The councilor’s husband, Arturo Sugala, sustained gunshot wounds but was able to escape.

PO2 Alberto Cabahug of Carmen police said the couple was on board a motorcycle going to Purok 4 to attend a meeting when four men blocked their way and fired at them.

Arturo, who is now being treated in Cong. Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital, identified one of the assailants as Jose Neosina. Arturo said Neosina’s bonnet was accidentally removed during the ambush.

Police investigators found seven empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

A hot pursuit operation is underway against Neosina and the other three assailants.
