CEBUANA duathlete Miscelle Gilbuena ended a string of bridesmaid finishes in the National Duathlon Championships (NDC), winning the 2017 title in Subic last Sunday.

The 29-year-old Gilbuena, who is from Bantayan Island, north Cebu, has always been a strong finisher in the NDC but she has never won the coveted title, finishing second in 2015 and 2016.

But she made sure the slump ended as she finally claimed the female standard distance title after clocking two hours and 16 minutes in the 10-kilometer run, 40km bike and 5km run event.

According to Gilbuena, her morale-boosting victories in the Powerman Asian Championships and the NutriLite Health Run held earlier this year played an important role in her title finish this year.

“My bike and run really improved this year,” Gilbuena said.

Next up for Gilbuena is the Milo Marathon scheduled this December in Cebu.
