SPECTRUM Runners Club’s veteran runner Desiderio Engbino was his usual self last Sunday as he ruled the Negros Oriental Ultramarathon that started at the Negros Oriental Provincial Capitol and ended at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City.

The 47-year-old Boholano, known to his teammates as “Sano,” finished first in the grueling 160-kilometer race, completing it in 20 hours and 28 minutes.

This was the third time Engbino has ruled this annual ultra marathon event. He won it in 2014 and 2015 before skipping the race last year to attend to personal matters.

Engbino has been on a roll this year, winning all three legs of the Leyte Ultramarathon Series.

Meanwhile, fellow Spectrum bets Edilberto Batiancila and Warlen Letegio Cadimas topped the 100k category.

Batiancila, the defending champion of the Speed 50k Ultramarathon, Bogo 100k Ultramarathon and Transcentral Ultramarathon, clocked 10 hours and 41 minutes to win the men’s race.

Cadimas topped the distaff side after crossing the finish line in 15 hours, 22 minutes and 57 seconds.

This was her first major title.
