Mandaue City Councilor Demetrio “Jun” Cortes Jr. passed away at the age of 66 late this afternoon due to kidney failure.

This was confirmed by his brother, Sixth District Rep. Jonas Cortes, that Demetrio died at around 4:30 in the afternoon.

Cortes said his brother had been going in and out from the hospital due to his illness.

Colleagues in the City Council and the Mandaue City Hall have been posting messages on Facebook to express their condolence to the Cortes family for the passing of a man many would fondly call “Tatay Jun.”

“Today our City lost a great man whose dedication towards public service incredibly defied all physical odds. He will be missed by many. Farewell, Councilor “Tatay” Jun,” said an FB post by Mandaue Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna.
