Panthers down USC-North in U15 class of Cebu Youth Basketball League
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) grabbed the top spot in Group A of Division 1 of the Under 15 class with a hard-earned 61-57 overtime win over the University of San Carlos (USC)-North last weekend at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball court along Mango Avenue.
Regulation ended at 53-all for both teams but USPF had the steadier hand in the extra session to claim its third win against a lone loss, the same record as its opponent.
USPF nabbed the top seed by virtue of the winner-over-the-other rule.
Byron Lawton led USPF with 20 points while Francis Tongco backed him up with 11.
Reinhard Jumamoy paced USC-North with 17 markers.
In Group B of the same age group, Ateneo de Cebu outlasted the University of the Visayas (UV), 61-53, in a game held at the SMS Boystown in Minglanilla.
Marcus Fuentes and Tracy Dadang each had 11 points to give Ateneo de Cebu its fourth win in five games.
Both UV and Ateneo de Cebu actually have the same record but as with the other game, the winner-over-the-other rule applies, giving the boys in blue the top seed.
Young prodigy Steve Nash Enriquez scored 15 for UV.
Ateneo de Cebu will be taking on USC-North while USPF battles UV in the semifinals.
