John Lloyd Cruz, Lav Diaz nominated at the 15th International Cinephile Society Awards

KAPAMILYA actor John Lloyd Cruz is one of the nominees for the Best Supporting Actor category at the 15th International Cinephile Society (ICS) Awards.

The list of nominees was announced through ICS website yesterday. Cruz was nominated for the film, “The Woman Who Left” (Ang Babaeng Humayo) written and directed by Lav Diaz.

Other nominees in the category are Willem Dafoe (“The Florida Project”), Armie Hammer (“Call Me By Your Name”), Barry Keoghan (“The Killing of a Sacred Deer”), Michael Stuhlbarg (“Call Me By Your Name”), and Arnaud Valois (“BPM”).

Cruz posted a screengrab of nominees on his Instagram account yesterday and said, “Wasak. ICS Awards never in my wildest dreams. When I read Daniel Day Lewis written in his category sabi ko uy panalo na ko.”

In “The Woman Who Left,” Cruz played the role of Hollanda, a transgender. The film is topbilled by Charo Santos-Concio.
Aside from Cruz, Diaz was nominated for the Adapted Screenplay awards for the same film.

Diaz was nominated along with James Ivory (“Call Me By Your Name”), Thiery Lounas and Albert Serra (“The Death of Louis XIV”), James Gray (“The Lost City of Z”), and Michael Almereyda (“Marjorie Prime”).

The film is also nominated for Best Film Not in the English Language along with “BPM,” “The Death of Louis XIV,” “Nocturama,” “On The Beach Night Alone,” “The Ornithologist,” “Raw,” “Sieranevada,” and “Visages Villages.”

“The Woman Who Left” is a 2016 film produced by Cinema One Originals and Sine Olivia.

The story talks about Horacia Somorostro (Santos-Concio) who seeks for justice after she was framed up by the crime she did not commit.

Other stars in this film are Shamaine Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, and Michael De Mesa.

According to its website, ICS is an “online group made up of approximately 100 accredited journalists, film scholars, historians, and other industry professionals who cover film festivals.”

The announcement of winners for the 15th ICS Awards will be on February 4.
