Don Bosco keeps boys’ U19 crown

DON BOSCO retained its title in the Boys Under 19 in the 15th Thirsty Football Cup with a 2-0 blanking of Giuseppe FC last night at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Glen Thomas Ramos scored the first goal in the first half while John Clyde Vitualla sealed the win for the second straight year for the Greywolves.
Ramos was named as the Most Valuable Player of the category.

Don Bosco clinched their finals ticket with a 2-0 edging of Wolfe FC while Giuseppe FC advanced to the championship round with a 2-1 victory over Paref Springdale.

Both teams topped their respective brackets with Don Bosco advancing to the final 4 after squeaking past Pacific FC, 1-0, and Giuseppe bagging a semifinals ticket via a 1-0 edging of CST-R.

Earlier, Abellana and Ilonggo Young Booters got into a tussle but cooler heads prevailed.

Games in the Mix Open and 38-Above were still ongoing as of press time.

All categories will be 7-a-side except for the Mix U7, which will be a 5-a-side.

Despite limiting the number of participants, this year’s edition of the Thirsty Football Cup gathered the most number of out-of-town teams and clubs numbering to 93.

These teams and clubs are from Samar, Iligan, Tacloban, Cabalian, Southern Leyte, Ormoc, Baybay, Masbate, Bacolod, San Carlos, Carcar, Panglao,

Tagbilaran, Ilo-ilo, Maasin, Gingoog, Cagayan de Oro, Himamaylan, Butuan, Dumaguete, Barotac Nuevo, Roxas, and Capiz.

Categories to be played today are Boys U13, Girls U15, Girls U17, Mix U7, Mix U9, Mix U11 and the Girls U19.

On Sunday are the Boys U15, Boys U17 and the Women’s Open.

The premier Men’s Open, which attracted the most number of teams at 36, will be played on both Saturday and Sunday.

The games will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday and resume at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
