KAPUSO actress Ryza Cenon has won her first ever international acting award.

Cenon won the Yakushi Pearl Award for the film, “Mr. & Mrs. Cruz” during the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2018 at Osaka, Japan.

The good news was shared by Liza Diño-Sugerra, chair of Film Developmental Council of the Philippines (FDCP) on her Facebook account last Friday.

“Breaking News: Ryza Cenon wins Yakushi Pearl Award for the film Mr. & Mrs. Cruz at Osaka Asian film fest 2018,” she said.

Cenon, who accepted the award herself during the ceremony, shared photos on her Instagram account.

“Woohhooo!!! Thank you!! Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino!!! Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala hahahaah ganito pala ang feeling. Nakuha ang perlas para sa Pilipinas,” said the 30-year-old actress, whose showbiz career started when she won as Ultimate Female Survivor in GMA Network’s artista search, “StarStruck” in 2004.

She starred in several teleseryes in the Kapuso Network but her biggest break so far is playing the villain Georgia in the hit afternoon series, “Ika 6 na Utos,” which ended just last Saturday.

Cenon succeeded Iza Calzado who won the same award last year for the film, “Bliss.”

According to the Osaka Asia Film Festival website, the Yakushi Pearl Award is given to the most brilliant performer among all participating films’ cast members.

“Mr. & Mrs. Cruz” is headlined by Cenon and JC Santos. It was written and directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo and produced by Viva Films.

The story was about two strangers, Raffy (Santos) and Gela (Cenon) who have different views on marriage.

The movie was set in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Aside from Cenon, young director Mikhael Red won the Most Promising Talent Award for his 2017 film, “Neomanila.”

According to the film festival website, the award is given to the “most promising artist among those involved in the Competition films, who the jurors believe will play an important role in Asian film world in the future.”

FDCP announced Red’s victory through their Facebook page on Friday.

“Thank you Film Developmental Council of the Philippines,” Red said.

“Neomanila” is a thriller film headlined by Eula Valdes, Timothy Castillo, and Rocky Salumbides.

Red is an award-winning director known for his work in “Birdshot” which was the country’s official entry to Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category in 2018.
