Caravan of services
Around P5 million worth of assistance were given by the Cebu Provincial government to the municipalities of Balamban, Asturias, Tuburan and Pinamungajan and the city of Toledo during the Capitol’s Caravan of Services yesterday.
Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale led the distribution of tools and equipment worth P427,000 to the farmers from the beneficiary local government units (LGUs).
The farm tools and equipment included rice reaper for the Canlumampao Rice Farmers Association, water pump with accessories for Cabitoonan Progressive Farmers Association, hand jabbers for Toledo City Farmers Scientist Association and Asturias Farmers Scientist Association and blue plastic drum for the municipal agriculture offices of Balamban, Asturias, Tuburan and Pinamungajan.
Moreover, electric dryer for coco sugar and vertical sealer were given to Farmer Growers Association of Barangay Landahan, Toledo City.
Provincial Agriculturist Roldan Saragena said the tools are useful for farmers, who were affected by the typhoons that hit Cebu last year.
“Ang ilang mga tanom nangadaot labi na sa nagsagunson nga bagyong Urduja ug Vinta (Their plants were damaged especially with the occurrence of successive typhoons Urduja and Vinta),” Saragena said.
The caravan also rendered free medical consultations and surgical operations at the out-patient department (OPD) of Balamban Provincial Hospital.
The hospital also received ten wheelchairs for adults and children, five walkers and five crutches.
OPD nurse Jennifer Estan said a total of 217 patients were screened for both major and minor operations. The screening started yesterday and will run until Friday.
Twenty reading eyeglasses were also distributed to each of the 28 barangays in Balamban.
Aside from that, the provincial government also turned over P4.5 million worth of equipment to the beneficiary LGUs, including nine foldable emergency shelter vans, eight 20-footer vans and a 40-footer van to Toledo City.
“Daghan kaayo tag serbisyo. Amoa kining gibuhat aron mapaduol ang serbisyo kaninyo (We have many services. And we bring these services closer to you),” Magpale said yesterday at the Balamban Provincial Hospital.
Another beneficiary of the Capitol’s caravan of services was 100-year-old Marcelo Elladora of Barangay Canlumampao, Toledo City. Elladora received P50,000 cash for being a centenarian.
