THE CENTRAL Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) opened its Palarong Pambansa campaign on a good note courtesy of its football teams which won their first assignments yesterday in separate venues in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu-manned secondary team blanked SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association (Region 12, SRAA), 2-0, at the Pagsanaan pitch while the elementary squad routed the MIMAROPAA (Region 4B, MRAA), 5-0, at the St. Paul field.
The secondary team is beefed up by booters from Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, Cebu City and Cebu Province while the elementary squad’s core players are from the Don Bosco Technical College and reinforced by players from Lapu-Lapu, Bohol, Dumaguete, Bayawan and Negros Oriental.
The ballgames will continue this morning with games in baseball, softball and sepak takraw also to start before the opening ceremonies this afternoon that will officially open the 61st Palarong Pambansa.
About 12,000 best of the best student athletes coming from the 17 regions of the Philippines will assemble at 11 a.m. for the parade of athletes, which will start at the Capitol to the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium in Bantay town for the opening ceremonies.
