A 7-year-old boy was killed while his 9-year-old cousin was wounded after they were hit by a truck in  barangay Tabunan, Cebu City on Tuesday.

Police identified the fatality as Johnmark Son. Wounded was Ritchel Tubod.

The  two boys were walking home from school when the accident happened Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the truck driven by Alejo Pado was carrying sand.

Traffic investigator Manuel Tagaan said that the truck was  negotiating a hilly portion of the road,  when its  wheel axle broke causing the driver to lose control of the wheel.

The truck rolled  backwards and hit the boys.

Police said the truck’s step board hit Son’s head, killing him instantly.

The second boy,  Tubod,  sustained injuries in different parts of the body and was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The truck driver said he didn’t notice that the boys were hit until he heard a loud thud. The father of the slain boy said he wouldn’t file charges since what happened was an accident.
