The fire that hit Gaisano Grand Mall on Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City has been contained in some portions as of 7:30 p.m. on Sunday (April 29).

FO3 Ruffred Amores of Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department said firefighters are still trying to extinguish the fire at the fourth floor of the storage room of the mall.

The same floor contains home furnitures and diapers.

However, the fire has not spread to its adjacent building.

The mall remains closed and the employees were safely evacuated. No casualties were reported.

“Our main challenge now is to clear all the smoke in the area. We already dug a hole at the roof to let all the smoke escape,” said Amores.

As of this writing, fire fighters continue to put out the fire, which reportedly started at around 4:27 p.m.

Task Force Alpha was later raised at 5:10 p.m.
