Cebu Province isn’t going to take it easy any time soon. Not even after scoring a second straight dominating win in the Cebu City Mayor’s Cup Open Volleyball Tournament.
Cebu Province, comprised of current and ex-Cebu Schools Athletic Association Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) players, defeated Cebrus, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16, on Tuesday at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym to improve to 2-0 (win-loss) in the men’s division action of this tournament spearheaded by the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Cebu Spikers Volleyball Club.
Cebu Province trainer Charlie Roscios told Cebu Daily News he was impressed with the way his team won, a good follow up to its 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20 victory over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) on opening day last Sunday.
“I can say that our players really excelled during the game against Cebrus,” Roscios said.
But Roscios said the team needs to be better since it is using this tournament to get in perfect shape for a bigger battle ahead.
“We need more practices for their chemistry because aside from this tournament, we are also preparing for the Philippine National Games,” he said.
The Philippine National Games will be held here in Cebu City from May 19 to 25.
Meanwhile, USJ-R’s men’s team also came up with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 sweep of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).
Its women’s team followed suit, routing the University of Cebu (UC), 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.
USJ-R Women’s head coach Norvie Labuga said the team responded well to bounce back from a loss to USC last Sunday.
“The ladies executed the instructions I gave them really well,” Labuga said. “I can tell that they were in very good condition for today’s match.”
According to Labuga, they will be giving the best they can all-throughout the series, saying this competition will be a good exposure for the team in preparation for the upcoming Cesafi season.
In another game in the Men’s Division, USC triumphed against University of Bohol (UB), 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.
