UC survives SWU fightback

By: JONAS PANERIO June 10,2018 - 09:03 PM

THE M. LHUILLIER Kwarta Padala-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters weathered a prolonged scoring drought in the fourth and emerged victorious over the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras, 86-74, in the college division of the 2018 Cesafi Partner’s Cup, yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Webmasters headed to the fourth on top by a whopping 24 points, 72-48, behind a 34-15 explosion in the third.

However, UC began shooting blanks while SWU-Phinma suddenly found its rhythm and went on a 20-0 run capped by two three pointers by big man Reeve Ugsang and a steal and a layup by Shaquille Imperial, that trimmed the deficit to four, 68-72, time down to 4:35.

The Webmasters regained their bearings and pulled away down the stretch with back-to-back three pointers by Justine Dacalos and Joven Tagudin, sealing the final tally.

Former Centro Escolar University Scorpion, Paul Galinato was as good as advertised as he led the Webmasters with 19 points. Dacalos finished with 17, Frederick Elombi added 14 while Jabello, Tagudin and Allen Pelegrino scored 10 apiece.

Imperial paced SWU-Phinma with 16 markers in spite playing limited minutes because of a sore knee.

In the high school division, the Hotel Fortuna-University of Cebu also nabbed a win, crushing the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 79-58.
