The 26-year old driver of the car that sideswept six high school students in Boljoon town last Thursday said his sister is talking to the aggrieved families to work out an amicable settlement.

Al-Dhinier Sanaani, 26, a medical representative told Cebu Daily News yesterday that he is extending help to the families.

“I don’t want to further comment on the issue since I was advised by my lawyer not to release any statement,” said Sanaani, who was wearing a neck brace while confined at Cebu Doctors Hospital yesterday.

He said there was no notice from his resident doctor on when he would be discharged.

Chief Insp. Dexter Balansag Basirgo of the Boljoon police said the families of the victims will file a case against Sanaani.

Those killed in last Thursday’s accident that occured near Lusapon bridge, Boljoon town were Joanne Marie Romero, 16, Judy Ann Lomera, 17, and Christy Marie Estella, 18.

Lomera died on the spot while Estella and Romero succumbed to her  head injuries at the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.

Those injured were Melissa Mendez, 14; her cousin Kynth Marie Mendez, 14; and Nice Ancheta, 15. All are students of Boljoon National High School.

“I told them they can withdraw charges if they so decide. So they won’t regret it, they can pursue the case,” Basirgo said.

A charge of homicide through reckless imprudence will be filed tomorrow against Sanaani.

“Amo sang gi-una ang pamilya sa mga namatyan. Maghuwat pa ta sa doctor sa katong na confine kung unsa ka grabe ang uban nga biktima (We are prioritizing the families of the deceased victims. We’re waiting on the doctor to assess how seriously injured the other victims were,” Basirgo said.

The three students are now confined at Chong Hua Hospital.

Basirgo said Sanaani drove at speeds of 80 kph to 100 kph during that time.

He disputed Sanaani’s earlier claim to the police that there was a hump on the road. Basirgo said Sanaani tested negative in a liquor test.  “We will also recommend that Sanaani undergo a drug test,” he said.

Basirgo said Sanaani has police escorts while he’s confined in the hospital.

He said no complaints and cases will be filed against the 26-year old car owner Kristine Batucan who rode with Sanaani during the incident.
