Netizens were mixed over a Cebu Daily News report that 11 lawyers in Cebu had been killed since 2004 with the latest casualty being lawyer Salvador Solima, who was shot inside his house in Singson Village, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last Monday.

A netizen named John Harry Bunagan said, “And even though the article states since 2004, haters will still say that this is Dutertes fault.”

Nes Caminero commented, “But recent killings of practicing lawyers handling certain cases are alarming more so if preceded by incendiary statements that may provide cover for impunity. Examples are that of Atty Bato in Leyte. Atty Ungab of Cebu. recently. There was also a lawyer in Iloilo. All remain unsolved.”

Milko Abellana wrote, “The nature of their work makes them vulnerable to such attacks. The figure started in 2004 up to now perpetrated by different individuals and for different reasons.”
