Where It All Started
From what started as a small suggestion from his workmates at Perpetual Succour Hospital, former nurse Carlo organized special occasions like parties and weddings for friends as a hobby in 2009 which eventually earned him a ticket to launch his business called Unique Weddings Cebu in 2012.
At first, things were challenging being a first timer in the industry, but Carlo was solid in his belief that if you’re creative and talented, it would not matter what your educational background is.

The first wedding planner in Cebu to manage events outside the country, Unique Weddings Cebu is recognized as the Top 10 Wedding Coordinator Teams in the Philippines.
“The good thing about us is we tie-up with 80% of the suppliers in Cebu which are the best in the province,” said Abaquita.
Unique Weddings Cebu did recent engagements of celebrities including couples Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford and Karel Marquez and Sean Fariñas.

With their office located at Market Strip Building in front of Ramos Public Market, Carlo and his team have a balance of serious work and laugh-out breaks since the nature of their work requires them to be both professional and patient at the same time in dealing with different clients and suppliers.
“Usually, when clients pitch in their ideas, they are clueless about the budget, so from their perspective, we help them about the details and where to start,” said Abaquita.
“Since Cebu clients are practical, we get creative and work with the budget,” added Abaquita.
Carlo and his team also aim at working hand-in-hand with suppliers so they can meet halfway.
Industry Tips
For wedding coordinator rookies jet setting their career, Carlo advises to start organizing events for close friends as a gift which was where he started.
Carlo also stressed the importance of upgrading wedding packages to better suit the modern market preferences.

“Do what you love and love what you do,” this was what Carlo always tells himself and his team because when one loves what he or she is doing, one can achieve anything no matter how difficult it may seem.
It’s also important for him and his team to do their best in their work, so they can appreciate the outcome and continue to work better no matter what other people may think or say.
