Ironman Cebu 70.3 voted most spectator-friendly race in the world
The Cebu Ironman 70.3 has been voted as the most favorite spectator-friendly race by the Ironman community worldwide.
Ironman conducted the poll on its Facebook page, wherein members of the Ironman community was given a choice of races around the world as part of its 40th year anniversary.
Eversince Cebu started hosting the Ironman 70.3 in 2012, participants, including the pros, have always been vocal of how much they appreciated the spectators on the sidelines whom they accredited for motivating them to finish the gruelling race. They’ve also been vocal about the atmosphere being unique compared to other Ironman races all over the world.
Cebu won over events like the Ironman European Championship, Frankfurt and Ironman Australia and Ironman Mont-Tremblant.
“It is very Kona-esk. If you want to race Kona, do this race, the heat, the wind, the atmosphere, the crowd. This race is the jewel of the crown here in Asia,” stated Geoff Meyer, the Ironman CEO of Asia Pacific, on the m.asia.ironman.com where the poll result was announced.
“Triathlon, it is really more fun in the Philippines,” this from Pro triathlete Brent McMahon of Canada while Sam Betten of Australia also has this to say “I have raced in Europe, Australia, the United States but racing in the Philippines is different. It is like family.”
Both McMahon and Betten are consistent participants of the Ironman 70.3 in Cebu.
This development is a big boost with the Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships coming on August 5.
This is the second time that Cebu will get to host an Asia Pacific Championship. The first time that it did was in 2016, where it was dubbed as the Crown Jewel of Asia.
