CCTO impounds 13 vehicles for counterflow violation along Mambaling road
THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has impounded at least 13 vehicles whose drivers were caught violating the city’s anti-counterflow policy while plying the city’s southern corridor.
Francisco Ouano, CCTO head, said they will continue to implement the anti-counterflow Executive Order which Mayor Tomas Osmeña signed on February 2018 despite warnings from Land Transportation Office Central Visayas (LTO-7) Director Victor Emmnauel Caindec that this was “illegal.”
“Musunod ra mi sa unsay mando sa atong mayor ug sa city government. Para sad sa kaayuhan sa atong syudad ang gihimo sa mayor ang pag disiplina sa mga drivers (We follow the orders of the mayor and the city government. This is done for the good of the city and in order to instill discipline among motorists),” he said.
CCTO already impounded more than 2,500 vehicles that included motorcycles and dump trucks since the EO’s implementation.
“But from time to time, we release these. As of now, there are about 300 vehicles impounded, most of which are motorcycles,” said Ouano.
Ouano said they impounded from Tuesday to Thursday this week the 13 vehicles whose drivers violated the anti-counterflow EO while along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Mambaling.
However, Ouano admitted that the impounding of these vehicles have not really helped much in decongesting the southern corridor where there is an ongoing underpass project.
Congestion remains to be a problem along N. Bacalso Avenue and its road links which include E. Sabellano, F. Llamas and Tagunol Streets.
Ouano is asking Cebuanos to be more patient with a promise that congestion problems will be addressed as soon as the underpass construction project is completed.
