FOR 13-year old Cebuana young triathlete Moira Frances Erediano, her 6-kilometer victory in yesterday’s Reach Out Run For Autism Awareness
Challenge was proof that she is ready to defend her title in the upcoming Alaska Ironkids triathlon on August 4 at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Erediano, the 13-14 years old champ, clocked 24 minutes and 46 seconds to win the 6k female crown. She beat noted runners such as Cherry Andrin of the Spectrum Runners Club, who came in second with a time of 26:52, and Antoinette Velaryo, who rounded off the top three, clocking 27:12.
“I am so happy that I won the fun run because that means that my training is working very well,” said Erediano, who will represent TLTG Triathlon Team, Keith de Fiebre, and Organique in the Ironkids. “This will surely inspire me to train harder and improve, especially that I am competing again in the Alaska Ironkids.”
Aside from the 6k win yesterday, Erediano already won numerous cycling and duathlon races in the past months, all part of her preparation for the Alaska Ironkids.
“There are a lot of good triathletes in my division this year and just like me, they are also training hard. But I am very positive of the outcome no matter what because I leave everything to God,” said Erediano, who studies at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
Ruel Algufera topped the 6k men’s race with a time of 19:45.
Winners in the 12k were Kenyan Eric Chepsiror (40:53) and Joan Alinsunod (53:16).
The running event was organized by the Parent’s Reach Foundation Inc. (PRFI) in partnership with SM City Cebu and the Rotary Club of Cebu- Fuente (RCCF).
