Local disaster management units and local government units (LGUs) in Cebu are preparing for Typhoon Ompong, which is likely to develop into a “super typhoon”.

Baltazar Tribunalo, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said they are closely monitoring landslide and flood-prone areas.

Tribunalo said they also coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and private quarry operators for the deployment of heavy equipment in case of landslides or uprooted trees.

On the other hand, the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) is now on code white alert.

Dr. Shelbay Blanco, medical officer of DoH-7, said that they now have pre-positioned their logistics and supplies.

All hospitals are also placed on the same alert level, wherein no employee is allowed to take a leave.

Typhoon Ompong, which has the international name Mangkhut, will be entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday (September 12).
