THE management of SM Seaside Complex at the South Road Properties (SRP) is asking the Cebu city government to brief them about their traffic management plan for the SRP after Mayor Michael Rama junked their proposal to develop a commercial road network in the mall’s vicinity.

The SM Seaside City will open by September next year and vehicular traffic is expected to rise. The mall management expressed concern on why City Hall has not undertaken efforts to improve the roads in the SRP.

In a letter to the Cebu City Council, SM regional operations manager for the Visayas Sherry Tuvilla listed projects that City Hall must undertake. These are the completion of the commercial and interior roads and the widening of the Mambaling road, all of which haven’t been done by the city yet, Tuvilla pointed out.

“With the opening of the mall, we are expecting significant impact on traffic and accessibility at SRP. Relative to this, we are concerned on the present condition of the commercial road and the interior road adjacent to the SMSS Complex as well as the narrow span of the Mambaling road,” Tuvilla stated.

She suggested that the completion and accessibility of the roads before the second quarter of 2015.

An expanded road network will improve accessibility to SRP and improve traffic management in the area. It will also decongest traffic volume at the coastal and Mambaling roads when the mall opens, she added.

A complete passable network would also make it possible to operate and provide the public with a high quality public transport service. She asked for the city’s plan on completing these projects supporting locators at the SRP.
