THE MOUSE who started it all, Mickey Mouse, is marking his 90th anniversary this year, but no celebration would be complete without his better half, Minnie Mouse. For nine decades, both Mickey and Minnie have delighted generations of audiences in animated shows, making them among world’s most recognizable characters and the most famous cartoon couple.
Here are three things to know about the iconic Disney duo:
Mickey and Minnie have their own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Mickey Mouse received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on November 18, 1978, making him the first cartoon character to have a star. It was marked to celebrate 50 years since his first appearance on Steamboat Willie.
Minnie Mouse received her own star on the famous sidewalk last Jan. 22, 2018, 40 years after Mickey.
Mickey first appeared with Minnie on a plane Mickey’s first joint appearance with Minnie Mouse was in Walt Disney’s 1928 animated short, “Plane Crazy” where Mickey invites Minnie on an airplane ride. It was initially screened as a silent film but was later released as a sound cartoon in 1929.
A voice for Mickey and Minnie Walt Disney not only created the iconic Disney characters but he, too, provided the duo’s voices in their earliest films.
Wayne Allwine, who also voiced Mickey Mouse for over 30 years, married Minnie Mouse voice actress, Russi Taylor. They were married for over
20 years until Allwine’s death in 2009.
