CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Liloan town in northern Cebu continues to put out a fire that has been raging in the last 16 hours at a privately-owned but used by the municipal government dumpsite  in Barangay Sta. Cruz, a hinterland village in the town, 21.3 kilometers north of Cebu City.

Fire Officer 2 Kleg Viloria of the Liloan Fire Station told Cebu Daily News Digital that they received the fire alarm at around 4 p.m. yesterday, February 12.

“Kagahapon pa na siya hangtud karon on going gihapon. Maglisod ug sulod ang atong fire truck tungod sa agianan,” said Viloria.

Viloria said they have tried to penetrate the area with the help of the Compostela Fire Station yesterday. However, the fire truck of the neighboring town could no longer go back to the fire site because of mechanical defect.

“Nagpatabang mi gahapon sa Compostela pero wala na pod sila kabalik human ato kay lisod gud ang agianan unya na-deperensyado pod ilang truck,” Viloria added.

Viloria said that their personnel are still in the area to contain the fire within the dumpsite and prevent it from spreading to its nearest residential area.

Viloria said the dumpsite, owned by a certain Mr. Longakit and used by the municipality of Liloan, is about 2 kilometers from the nearest settlement in the barangay.

“Nagmonitor gihapon mi karon aron masiguro nga di ni mokatag sa residential although layo-layo ra,” Viloria said./elb
