WHAT started out as a simple evaluation day of the College of Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) of University of Cebu (UC), emerged as a bigger and better student-and-teacher gathering as all campuses of the academe organized a simultaneous celebration of their College Days last February 13 to 15.

UC Main Campus is located along Sanciangko Street; the Banilad Campus along Gov. Cuenco Ave., Brgy. Banilad; the UC-LM Campus (stands for the cities Lapu-Lapu / Mandaue where it is situated); and the UC-METC (Maritime Educational Training Center) along Alumnos St., Mambaling.

“We decided to conduct our College Days simultaneously because if we celebrate them on different schedules, chances are, some classes will be disrupted and the unity among UCnians is not shared but kept individually or per department only,” says Elna Sabornido, faculty, College of Education.

Sabornido adds that the event has been conceptualized from the idea that HRM department is always having its evaluation day, where each student enrolled in this course, is assessed according to his/her performance in the class’ final requirements. On their final grading period, students are assigned to come up with projects based on their subjects. These would serve as their final outputs and basis of their final grades.

The students of HRM department previously had culinary activities and other programs in line with their course. Just recently, other departments came up with their own activities. Teachers also joined the celebration with their special programs.

The Association of Future Office Administration sold different goodies. They also had a make-up demo, logo design contest and spelling bee. The College of Allied Engineering had a videoke session, henna tattoo, souvenir items on sale, photobooth and Quiz Bowl: Mathematician of the Year.
