By: Contributor March 04,2014 - 11:40 AM

The Zonta Club of Cebu II will distribute handbooks on Republic Act 9262 or “Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004” to the Barangay GAD Focal Federation of Cebu City.

The distribution will be done during the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Persons meeting today at 1 p.m. at the Social Hall of Cebu City Hall.

Around 80 members of the federation will receive the handbooks.

R.A. 9262 penalizes acts of violence against women and their children. The Act mandates courts, local government units and various national government institutions and agencies to provide services and establish programs for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and their children (VAWC)  and for the protection of VAWC victims.

The Zonta club has conducted various seminars for students, school psychiatrists, social welfare development officers, barangay officials, GAD focal persons and police officers on R.A. 9262, of which the output was included in the handbook.

The handbook provides a comprehensive, simpler and clearer understanding of RA 9262 to enable the GAD focal person to be more helpful in assisting victims during investigation, filing of complaints as well as in the prosecution of the perpetrator.
