Police warn public about possible proliferation of fake money as election campaign starts
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) warned the public that along with vote-buying for the election campaign period, fake moneys may surface.
Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) director, said that together with the rise of drugs to fund an election campaign, fake money would also be expected to be rampant at this time.

He said that with the various attempts of some political groups to buy votes, there would be instances that fake money would be used.
Sinas encouraged the public that if they should come across fake money, they should immediately report and surrender the item to the police.

“Ireport gyod dayon na ninyo sa police aron matrace and source. (Report it immediately to the police so we can trace the source),” said Sinas.
Sinas said that the fake money might be produced in large quantities, and so the source of these counterfeit bills must be identified and the production be stopped.
He already directed the police chiefs of the cities and provinces to investigate immediately any reports of fake money and to waste no time looking for the source.
“Sa katong makadawat og fake money, ayaw ipost sa facebook lang. Ireport gyod. (For those who received fake money, do not only post on Facebook. Report it to the police),” said Sinas.
Sinas warned that not reporting the fake money would constitute a violation since the mere possession of a fake money already violates the law.
“Kung di ninyo ireport. Kamo amo kasohan. (If you don’t report it, we will file charges against you),” said Sinas. /dbs
