CEBU CITY, Philippines — With suspects in the Thursday dawn strafing of his home still unidentified, Sinsin Barangay Captain Aurelio Laspoña said that he wanted Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) installed within the vicinity of his residence as a deterrence against any attempts on his life and that of his family.

Laspoña said that while they now fear for their security, they are left with no other choice but to continue to occupy their residence that is located in the mountains of Cebu City’s south district.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña, he said, has also given instructions for their barangay tanods to prioritize the security of his home.

Like Laspoña, Sudlon II Barangay Captain Priscillo Albores said that he and his family now live in fear.

Albores is hopeful that the police will already be able to arrest the people behind the strafing of his home, Thursday dawn, so they could already sleep well at night.

Laspoña said that the planned establishment of a police detachment in his barangay would have been a deterrence against criminality.  Barangay Sinsin provides travellers coming from the cities of Talisay and Toledo and  Minglanilla town in southern Cebu access to Cebu City.

But Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Police Dirctor Royina Garma has denied the request citing the lack of funds for the purpose.

Dugay naman mi nagrequest ana apan wala man daw silay budget para sa detachment,” said Laspoña.

(We have long requested for the establishment of a police detachment in our barangay but we were told that their was no allocation for the purpose.) /dcb
