Amazing comeback: Minglanilla rallies to beat Sogod

Cebu City, Philippines—The Minglanilla Archangels mounted a furious comeback in the fourth period to turn away the hometown favorites Sogod, 73-72, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Sogod Municipal Gym.

Sogod was actually ahead by seven, 50-43, at the end of the third but the Archangels drew stellar performances from Lyle Eredera, Alvier Alforque and King Cabansay and Mark Nebril, who combined for 23 of Minglanilla’s 30 points in the fourth to pull push them to the win.

Minglanilla now finds itself tied at the top of Bracket B, alongside Consolacion, with similar 2-0 win-loss records. Sogod on the other hand, dropped to 0-2.

Eredera, a left-handed forward, led the way for Minglanilla with 18 points while Cabansay, a hulking big man who is currently playing for Southwestern University-Phinma, added 10 markers.

Meljay Cuizon scored 16 points for Sogod.

The quarterfinals continue on Saturday, with three games slated to be played at the Danao Civic Center starting at 4:30 p.m. /bmjo
