Mandaue still unbeaten in Governor’s Cup quarterfinal round

Cebu City, Philippines —The Mandaue City Ballers are on a roll, as they won their third game in a row with an 83-76 victory over the hometown Medellin on Sunday, April 14, 2019, in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament at the Medellin Municipal Gym.

Gabriel Cometa and Kenneth Brillo were back up to their old tricks as they led the way for Mandaue City with 27 and 21 points, respectively. 

The win propped Mandaue’s win-loss record n the quarterfinals to 3-0, good for the solo lead in Bracket A. 

Medellin dropped to 2-1 in spite of the 21 points of feisty guard Gelmart Umpad.

In other Bracket A matches, Balamban tied Medellin at 2-1 with a 96-91 victory over Argao. 

Joshua Gellacone paced Balamban with 22 points while Jacob Fernandez collected 20 markers.

Samboan also grabbed its first win of this round by beating Dumanjug, 88-82.

In Bracket B, the reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars and Tuburan are tied for the lead after logging in dominant victories at the Tabuelan Sports Complex.

Talisay City dismantled the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, 72-55, while Tuburan handed the Minglanilla Archangels an 88-73 defeat. 

Talisay City and Tuburan are now tied at the top with identical 2-0 win-loss records.

Tabuelan also came away a winner on Sunday, as it beat Sogod, 97-79, to improve to 1-2. /bmjo
