Island Paints, Phoenix Building Systems crush foes

Cebu City, Philippines—Island Paints and Phoenix Building Systems continued to reign supreme in the standings of the Architects + Engineers Basketball Club Corporate Cup 2019 as they dumped their respective opponents on Saturday, April 27, 2019, over at the University of San Carlos gym.

Phoenix came back from a sluggish start to defeat Davies Paints, 79-64, while Island Paints clobbered Buildrite, 96-55. 

The two winning squads now own similar 3-0 win-loss records.

Phoenix found itself down 10, 8-18, after the first but recovered in the second, where they held Davies Paints to just 16 points while scoring 28 of their own to seize the advantage, 36-34. Phoenix continued its onslaught in the third where they outscored Davies, 22-9, to take full control of the game en route to snatching the win.

Kurt Vanguardia and Armand Intong scored 17 points each to lead Phoenix.

Ralph Catugas meanwhile, scored 25 points to go with three rebounds and three assists to carry Island Paints to the easy win over the winless Buildrite.

In other games, Toyota Mabolo and Thinking Tools Inc. also prevailed over their respective rivals.

Thinking Tools Inc. crushed AVC Development and Construction Corp., 74-60, while Toyota Mabolo trounced Filmon/Dormakaba, 76-70. The two teams now boast of identical 2-1 records while the losing squads fell to 0-3.

Former M. Lhuillier standout Jett Latonio scored 17 points, grabbed 11 boards and issued six assists to lead six Toyota Mabolo players in double figures.

Big man Patrick Paran on the other hand, had 21 points to push Thinking Tools Inc. to the win. Arnel Cordero added 17 points and nine rebounds while Kim Rojas chipped in 13 points and five assists. /bmjo
