MANDAUE CITY, Philippines —A total of 680 defective bulbs and LED tubes found in Mandaue City polling precincts and holding areas will have to be replaced to make sure that the casting of votes in the May 13 midterm election is done in well lit areas.

Dexter Ian Flores, head of the electrical building maintenance division of the City’s Department of General Services (DGS), said they already identified the location of the defective bulbs following an inspection of the 244 polling precincts located in 27 public schools in the city.

Flores said they intend to complete the replacement of defective light bulbs next week.

On Tuesday, April 30, Flores’ team installed replacement bulbs at the Mandaue City Central School (MCCS) which serves as the polling center for voters coming from the neighboring barangays of Centro, Cambaro, Mantuyong and Alang-Alang.

Kayahon ra man namo mahuman og taod basta lang inig adto namo sa mga skwelahan naay yawi sa mga classrooms aron maablihan dayon. Mao ra man na ang makalangay sa trabaho kung wala ang yawi,” said Flores.

(We try to finish everything provided that during our school visits, we are able to given the keys to the classrooms. It delays our work if the keys are unavailable.)

The Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue City Schools Division allocated for the purchase of the 680 replacement bulbs while the city’s DGS provided the labor.

Flores said that when they complete the work, they will still be on standby to configure and troubleshoot errors in the electrical wirings of schools especially on election day.

Armando Nieva, Physical Facilities coordinator of MCCS, said their school is now ready to accommodate voters in the May 13 polls.

As an added preparation, Mandaue City teachers who will serve in the election were also made to undergo refresher course on election operation guidelines from April 29 to 30 and May 2 to 3. /dcb
