Comelec-7 chief: We are 99.9% ready for May 13 election

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The teachers, who will be part of the Board of Election Inspectors, have already been briefed on how to operate the Voter Registration Verification Machine (VRVM).

Lawyer Veronico Petalcorin, acting Commission on Election in Central Visayas (Comelec 7) director, said this in a press briefing on Friday, May 3, about the poll body being 99.9 percent ready for the May 13 midterm election.

Petalcorin said that the VRVM would be used to detect impostors and illegal voters during the election.

The biometrics of the voter will be registered and the machine will confirm whether the voter is indeed assigned to the voting precint.

He also assured of more security detail if they would be needed in an area during the election.

He said that while the tagging of an election hotspot would be dynamic, areas that would be tagged would be augmented with more security detail.

He said that some areas in Negros Oriental had been identified as an election hotspot because of the presence of armed groups./dbs
