Cebuano June Mar Fajardo bags third Finals MVP award

Cebu City, Philippines–Cebuano big man June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel emerged as the Finals MVP in the recent PBA Philippine Cup Best-of-Seven Finals series against Magnolia, which the Beermen won, 4-3, on Wednesday night, May 15, 2019.

The 6-foot-10 Cebuano from Pinamungajan town, southwestern Cebu averaged 22.9 points, 19.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in the Finals series.

The 29-year-old, five-time season Most Valuable Player (MVP) finished with 17 points and a PBA record (for a local) 31 rebounds in the deciding Game 7 to help the Beermen score a 72-71 comeback win against the upset-seeking Hotshots at the Araneta Coliseum.

This is the third time the Cebuano has won the Finals MVP award.

Fajardo’s steady showing allowed the Beermen to win their fifth straight All-Filipino title in the league. It is also Fajardo’s seventh PBA title overall. /bmjo
