Three cities in the Philippines made it to the list of cities with the most number of “selfie-takers” in the world, a study published by an international news magazine  said yesterday.

Makati City and  Pasig City were adjudged the “Selfie Capitals of the World” while Cebu City was ranked 9th, TIME Magazine reported yesterday.

“Makati City, known as the financial center of the Philippines, can now boast another distinction: It is the Selfie Capital of the World,” TIME editor Chris Wilson said in a post on the magazine’s website Tuesday.

Wilson added, “The city, part of metropolitan Manila and home to 500,000 people, produces more selfies per capita than any other city in the world.”

Cebu City, which followed Milan in Italy in the ranking, recorded 1,064 selfies uploaded in the photo-sharing site Instagram by 787 users.

TIME made a database of over 400,000 Instagram pictures taken over the course of a 10-day period. The pictures that were included in the study were tagged as “selfie” and included the geographic coordinates of each of the images.

The photos were downloaded from photo sharing application Instagram from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2 and March 3-7, 2014.
