MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo said she is “leaving everything open” on the possibility of joining the 2022 presidential race.

“If  you ask me now, I have no plans. I’m leaving everything open,” the Vice President said in an interview with Bloomberg.

“We still have three years before the next presidential elections. a lot can still happen,” Robredo added. “If you look at the history at many of our elections, one year spells a lot of difference.”

Reiterating what she had said before that “The presidency is destiny,” she added: “When I ran for vice president, one of the prerequisites is to take over if anything happens to the President. I would have not ran for the vice presidency if i thought i wasn’t ready for the presidency.”

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Robredo is free to run if she meets the qualifications set by the Constitution.

“The Constitution provides for qualifications that anyone falls in any qualification, he or she is free to run for the presidency,” Panelo said during an event organized by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. in Quezon City on Saturday.   /muf
