MHAM moves to new home

The administration and department heads of Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine, Inc. during their Founder’s Day celebration and soft opening of their new building last August 13.

The Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine, Inc. (MHAM), formerly the Southwestern University (SWU)-Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine, Inc., officially unveiled its new home along R. Duterte Street in Banawa, Cebu City.

MHAM, which has consistently produced topnotchers in the Physician Licensure Board Examination, introduced its new building in a soft opening during its Founder’s Day last August 13, 2019, which was also the 112th birth anniversary of Don Matias Hipolito Aznar II.

Aznar founded MHAM, which was established as Southwestern Colleges in the summer of 1946, together with his wife Doña Anunciacion Barcenilla Aznar, both pharmacists by profession.

Dr. Allan R. Librando, the new dean of MHAM was also officially introduced during the event.

“Our new building is our new home and in our new home, we have best that we can offer to our students,” said Dr. Librando

He said that his plans include the purchase of modern incise equipment, high-performance liquid chromatography, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine for DNA and RNA isolation studies.

MHAM was previously located at the Redemptorist Plaza in Barangay Kamputhaw.

Dr. Librando  said that their new building with ten floors and an annex with six floors will be beneficial to the students.

MHAM has a digital skills laboratory that will equip their students with life support training. Operating room simulations and labor room simulations are also done at their skills laboratory.

Aside from MHAM’s laboratories on Anatomy, Pathology, Microbiology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Parasitology, Clinical pathology and Research, they also have a new Animal Research Laboratory. Their modern library is open 24/7 for their students.

Dr. Librando noted that the MHAM Animal Research Laboratory is licensed under the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry.

MHAM is also sending their faculty members to Singapore, Korea and to Harvard University to learn modern methods of teaching medical science. /bmjo
