P12.3M paid out for capture of 18 fugitives

By: Chito O. Aragon March 28,2014 - 08:08 AM

SEVERAL civilian tipsters went home with P12.3 million as rewards  for information that led to the arrest of 10 wanted persons in Central Visayas.

The ten include last week’s  arrest  of Benito and Wilman Tiamzon, top leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines,  in  the town of ALoguinsan, Cebu, police said yesterday.

The operations were carried out since August last year.

Supt. Fermin Armendarez III, deputy chief of the regional unit of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said the rewards were released to the civilian informants after  a positive evaluation made by the Department of Interior and Local Government.

“Validation of different sources is needed to check if the details given by an informant are facts,” said Armendarez. For an informant to qualify for the reward, authorities had to check his credibility and the information he had disclosed.

Armendarez said after an information gets validated, the CIDG  takes over and mounts an operation to capture the target fugitive.

He said many informants approach them usually for high profile cases.
Once an informant is qualified to get the reward money, he must present  documents pertaining to the arrest and other requirements to the DILG.
