Suspected cult leader Casiano “Tatay Loloy” Apduhan Jr. will be tried in court on accusations he detained a 34-year-old woman for more than five years inside his house in barangay Buanoy, Balamban town in Cebu.
The Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office found probable cause to indict Apduhan on charges of serious illegal detention, a non-bailable offense.
He was also charged with illegal possession of firearms after agents of the National Bureau of Investigation found two .38 cal. revolvers in his house during the raid last March 26.
Apduhan was transferred yesterday to the Toledo City Jail after the charges against him were formally elevated to the Regional Trial Court.
Insufficient evidence
The prosecutors, however, dismissed the charges against Apduhan’s driver, Victor Fajardo, for “insufficiency of evidence”.
In a joint resolution dated April 10, prosecutors found sufficient basis to elevate the charges against Apduhan in court even as the alleged victim—Emma Bocabal— didn’t execute an affidavit against him.
Prosecutors Venice Balansag, Arnulfo Amodia and Ludovico Cutaran said the accusations and defenses in the case are better ventilated in a court trial.
