Rama wants review of ‘evening only’ repairs

By: Edison Delos Angeles April 23,2014 - 09:44 AM

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama ordered a review of his policy to allow road repairs and constructions only in the evenings following complaints from residents living near the project sites.

“I am very sensitive of the text messages and these are valid concerns. But this will be dealt on a case to case basis,” he said.

Among the complaints he received were from residents of barangay Guadalupe who sent him a text message saying they could not sleep at nights because of the road repairs.

“Ato ni ipatan-aw kay basin naa tay ma identify nga remedy ani. (Let’s have this checked and look for solutions to this),” Rama said.

Rama will meet with contractors of all ongoing government projects in the city, including those of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

He wants an update on the status of the projects and their timetable. He will also discuss with contractors about adjusting their work schedules to address the complaints of residents.

Even city-initiated projects will be included in the review “kay basin apil ta sa cause of prejudice sa katawhan (Because we may be causing inconvenience too),” Rama said.

The mayor said the DPWH should help oversee their projects and find ways to reduce their effects on traffic, and not just leave this responsibility to the Cebu City Integrated Traffic Operations Management (Citom).

“I want DPWH to be aware that they should be part of policing. They should not only be relying on Citom,” he said.
