CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City government is preparing a suitable area for persons under monitoring for suspected cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (CONVID-19).

Dr. Daisy Villa, the City Health Officer, said that the City Resource Management and Development Center (Cremdec) that is located in the mountain barangay of Taptap is now being prepared for use as a quarantine area for PUMs.

She said that PUMs who will be brought there will get to enjoy fresh air and good ambiance while undergoing the 14-days quarantine period.

The facility has 200 beds that are more than enough to accommodate the more than 70 PUMs in Central who are currently being monitored by health officials.  At least five of them are from Cebu City and are now undergoing home quarantine.

Villa said that most of the PUMs are those with travel history to China.

But she clarified that they have not received information on secondary or human to human COVID-19 infection in Cebu City. This means that they have not monitored locals who were infected by the virus.

Villa said that she has scheduled a February 21 site inspection to determine what other amenities are needed at the planned quarantine site. After that, PUMs can already be brought there.

Meanwhile, the City Health Department (CHD) has already started to use the P15 million emergency fund allocation from City Hall for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand sanitizers, and alcohol for use by personnel of the CHD, Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

“We can say the P15 million (allocation) is enough. We accept what is given, so we can buy those N95 masks, any PPEs including gowns,” said Villa. / dcb
