CEBU CITY, Philippines—About two weeks since they started their campaign, Cebu based architects already produced 300 suits and 100 isolation gowns which they distributed to frontliners who are helping in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Jehanne Dy of Pakigkumbati Cebu Designers’ Initiative said that they distributed the personal protective equipment (PPEs) that they produced to some hospitals in Cebu City and Cebu province and some private individuals and companies who are also helping in the fight against the deadly virus.

“We have also given to individuals who personally reached out to us like cancer patients, nurses, etc.,” said Dy.

Dy said they are happy to have started the distribution of the PPEs which they made with the help of their partners and some volunteers.

Dy admitted that their mission to produce PPEs did not come easy because of several interruptions.

They had to delay their work in respect of the Holy Week celebration while border access also made it difficult for them to send some of their PPEs to intended beneficiaries who are located outside of Cebu City.

“We had to stop a few times lang jud because of Holy Week and the unpredictable changes of ordinances for all cities. It’s harder to send help (outside of Cebu City),” she said.

But they still managed to find their way.

With most of their finished products were already distributed, Dy said that they are again asking for donations of raw materials so they can start the second batch of their PPE production.

“We need raw materials, (but) we have ample manpower already and volunteer,” she added.
