USC vs AC Troopers dispute St. Isidore Fiesta Cup crown
ST.BERNARD, SOUTHERN LEYTE—The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors-Anistar barged into the championship round of the 2014 St. Isidore Fiesta Cup Basketball tournament after scoring a 72-63 victory over the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers-Kissbone Cove late Wednesday at the St. Bernard Gymnasium.
The Warriors-Anistar’s victory forged a championship match against the AC Troopers-Liga ng mga Barangay stalwarts after the latter shocked the vaunted University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers-Global Gasoline Station, 73-65, during their winner-take-all battle in the main game.
The Warriors-Anistar finished the single-round robin tournament with a 4-1 (win-loss) slate, same with the AC Troopers after their victory over UV-Global.
African import Olago Shooster was unstoppable for the boys of USC-Anistar coach Roland Remedio after he scattered a game-high 30 points.
The Growling Tigers absorbed their fifth loss in as many games in the tournament presented by the St. Bernard Local Government Unit under Mayor Napoleon Cauton and the St. Bernard Parish Church under Fr. Joy Catubig and organized by Panalay Tailoring of Coach Van Halen Parmis.
