The police in the City of Naga, southern Cebu has formed a 20-man Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) as it steps up its capability to respond to crimes.
The 20 police officers underwent training on counter-terrorism, high risk arrest, and hostage rescue.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, chief of police of Cebu province, said the Swat officers underwent a rigid screening process.
“Naa gyud na siya’y screening process and they need to be physically and mentally fit,” Gillamac said.
The city government spent P1.5 million for the training and acquisition of specialized equipment and weaponry for the Swat unit.
City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong said he is planning to build a modern police station as part of the LGU’s contribution to the police capability upgrade.
Gillamac said the cities of Talisay, Bogo, Toledo, Carcar and Danao will also have separate Swat units.
He said Swat candidates are presently undergoing training.
