Mandaue City cases up by 22; active cases at 751

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease in Mandaue City increased by 22 on Tuesday, August 5, 2020, bringing its total number of cases to 1,901.

An update posted by the Public Information Office (PIO) on Tuesday night said that the new cases include seven from Barangay Centro, four from Tabok, two each from Canduman, Cabancalan, and Guizo, and one each from Opao, Paknaan, Basak, Umapad, and Cambaro.

All four cases from Barangay Tabok are from one neighborhood while six of the seven cases in Barangay Centro are from the same area.

The PIO said that disinfection of the areas involved and the contact tracing activities for the newly confirmed cases are already underway.

Meanwhile, Mandaue City also reported 12 new recovered patients on Tuesday.

The new recoveries were all from community infections. The city government disaggregates its patient between those who are infected in the community and those who are in closed settings such as the City Jail.

These newly recovered patients were from the following barangays:

  • Alang-alang – 8
  • Mantuyong – 2
  • Basak – 1
  • Tingub – 1

The new recoveries bring the total recovery count of the city to 1,068. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the city remains at 82 with no additional deaths reported.

As of August 4, only 40 percent of its total infections, or 751 cases, remain active. / dcb
