CEBU CITY, Philippines -Noel Navarro Oring returned to Cebu City in 2019 after his contract as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) expired.

When his savings started to deplete and with his difficulty in finding a new job as a result of the pandemic, he turned to peddling illegal drugs, saidPolice Major Randy Caballes, chief of the City Intelligence Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO-CIU).

Oring, 32, was arrested with 60 grams of suspected shabu worth P408, 000 in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Camansi in Barangay Mabolo past 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 4.

He confessed that he sources his shabu from an inmate of the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan.

Caballes said they placed Oring under surveillance for two weeks before they planned the buy-bust operation.

“After we received information, we monitored his activities for at least two weeks to verify these,” Caballes said in Cebuano.

He said that a certain “Kano” recruited Oring to sell illegal drugs and eventually linked him to a source at the city jail.

Caballes said they were already able to identify Oring’s source of shabu but begged off from giving further information because of an ongoing follow-up operation. / dcb
