THE water reservoir servicing three barangays in Borbon town, northern Cebu is now free of fecal coliform, the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in Central Visayas (RESU-7) said yesterday.

“We conducted random testing last week and we found out that the residual chlorine reached the households,” RESU-7 chief Reynan Cimafranca said.

However Cimafranca reminded residents to be extra careful since the water source is still contaminated.

He said the water source, a spring, is vulnerable to contamination especially at the onset of the rainy season.

“The local officials should place a parameter fence so the spring is protected,” he said.

Cimafranca said a team they sent to inspect the area learned that residents bathe and do their laundry there. There are also animals spotted near the spring.

Cimafranca said the typhoid cases in barangays Cahel, Claver and Lugo in Borbon town are under control. He said they recorded 97 cases last week.

Borbon residents were advised to cook food well and to always cover their food to prevent contamination from flies and other insects.
