CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will soon open the second and third floors in approximately a month.

City Administrator Floro Casas, Jr., said this as he shared updates about the ongoing construction of the interior rooms of the hospital’s two floors.

Casas said in a phone conference on January 28, 2021, that the target for the opening of the two floors would be anytime in February since Mayor Edgardo Labella had been adamant that the CCMC leave its temporary building at the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) building.

The CCMC’s outpatient department was opened on December 28, 2020, five years since the construction began for the new building. The old one was destroyed in the 2013 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

Machines for the laboratories and fixtures for the rooms and the wards are currently being installed in the two floors as well, which will be necessary for operations.

“Ongoing ang pagtrabaho sa CCMC. As of now naa na sila sa process sa installation sa equipment. Ang OPD (outpatient department) on going na ang operation,” said Casas.

He said that the goal was to make the two floors available for admission patients by February to alleviate the pressure on other hospitals caring for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.

As of now, he said people could already go to the CCMC’s new building for consultation, but admissions were limited as the available rooms were still at the BFP building.

Casas assured the public that the second and third floors would be open soon to provide affordable health care to the residents. /dbs
